BTW, i lost a good old friend right in first week of landing, we worked @ same company in India(birlasoft), were happy to reach Uncle Sam, (he came before me)- asked me to join a meeting, will arrange pickup etc. somehow i missed the ride- LUCKY ME
next day again it started out - he never said what it was about who is involved etc.
i said no i dont think i would like to be involved, i was still calculating $1 = 45 Rupees, MCDONALD # 3 combo is Rs 300 oh lala, too expensive( YEAR 2000)
So my kanjusi paid off, see sometimes being lazy helps

While we are all sharing about our Amway solicitation experiences, let me share what I've seen in the last few years.
Background: In the last 6 years, I've been approached over 2 dozen times in the Bay Area. Things got so bad that the same guys have approached me more than 3 times in some cases before realizing that they've already talked to me before.
Incident #1:
A guy approached me while I was at the mall saying "hi" and striking up a conversation. During our short chat, this 20-something desi guy proceeds to tell me that he is the CIO of Fox News. At which time I pull out my iPhone and look him up using my LinkedIn app under the guise of adding him to my network. Turns out he is an engineer at a local company which he covers up by being embarassed and saying "I haven't updated my profile." I joke about how he moved up in his career so quickly - he then makes an excuse and walks away. I never hear from him again. Another reason to love technology!
Incident #2:
I get approached while shopping at the local GAP store. Being a veteran of this form of solicitation, I respond by saying that I work for the San Jose Mercury News and that we are doing a story on Multi-Level Marketing schemes. I ask him if he knows anyone who would be willing to chat on the record. This guys says "Nope, don't know anyone" and walks away. I never see him again...
Incident #3:
I am at the Nike store and get approached by this guy asking me if I work at Google (I do not). I tell him "Nope" and walk away before he can ask me another question. I have been approached by this same guy 2 more times at other stores (within 6 months) asking me similar questions. The 3rd time, I tell him - "We've spoken before - No, I don't work at Google, No, I'm not from Delhi and No, I'm not interested in what you are selling." He is stunned and walks away with his tail between his legs :)

The local Fry's is a popular hang out for Amway-types. I learned the hard way because I made my first mistakes here. Both guys that struck up a good conversation with me turned out to be Amway types. After the 2nd phone call, I tell them that if they call me again, I will report them to the authorities and Fry's for illegal solicitation and harassment.
This stops both people in their tracks. I never see them at Fry's again!
Bottom-line: Hold your ground, use technology and don't be afraid to kick them around a little bit. Saying "No" is golden!

When we moved from MN to NJ, we were so happy to find so many Indians around. In an Indian store I found a fellow native and I introduced myself. We were so happy that we found a good neighbor whom we can befriend. I gave them my number and got their number back. I never got any response from them whenever I called - ever. Later, I found the menace of Amway in these parts of world(among desis). I was so ashamed just by knowing that they mistook us for Amway people.
I have been approached by many in Walmart, Macy's and other stores with questions like "are your from Mumbai?", "I have seen your somewhere"... types...

No doubt, Canada is a good second option, but the standard of living is much better in the US and will always be. The health system in Canada is crumbling and a private sector is growing in parallel. The wait period for surgery (knee replacements etc) is increasing and I don't think the manna will last too long.

I have the same question. State dept moves the date just so that the visa numbers are used for that category. If a category is retrogressed, then it can't really be "undersubscribed".
This was listed at the bottom of the page in the March VB in state dept's website:
The cut-off date movement for March in several Employment categories has been greater than those experienced in recent months. Advancement of the cut-off dates at this time should prevent a situation later in the fiscal year where there are large amounts of numbers available but not enough time to use them. If the expected increase in CIS number use materializes, future cut-off date movements could slow or stop.

If USCIS follows Vertical Policy after EB-3 becomes current, all the remaining visas will go to EB-2 India/China and will be used up completely. With the volume of demand for EB-3 India, unless some legislative relief comes EB-3 India's problem will not be solved.
However, by following horizontal policy, if EB-2 India/China is cleared and made current, Any spillover in EB-3 should be equally shared and EB-3 India's share will improve but in miniscule way.
Fighting for legislative relief is the only way out for EB-3 instead of dividing our community between EB-2 and EB-3

My lawfirm just sent everyone an official memo stating the possibility of retrogression sometime in July and that they are working overtime to get all the cases filed at the earliest...They are saying that there is no guarantee that the 485 application will be accepted if DOS decides to retrogress dates in July....
What a nightmare these current dates on July bulletin are turning out to be. Instead of feeling relaxed, I am frustrated. I wish I had fired my lawyer the day the bulletin came out and done everything myself. I could have been ready now with fedex packets. The thing is, you dont want to start picking fights with everyone especially when the lawyer is not even hired by you but hired by company's HR department. So I kept quiet and was prepared to see my application go out on the 25th. And now, after denying that "it wont happen, it wont happen", all the lawyers are suddenly doing a flip-flop and saying "Oh, by the way, anything can happen". WTF ???

From what I remember, Ron Hira had done the math and found that only 0.03% of those H-1B visa applicants get sponsored for the GC by the Indian Offshore companies.
But, we still have a tremendous backlog in 2004, plus labor subs, plus EB3 moving over to EB2. According to , there are still hundreds of people waiting with PD before June 2004.
Also out of the 65K H1 visas that were available since 2003, most of the Visas were consumed by the Big Indian companies.
Remember when Congress sent letters to the Big Indian companies, there was data related to how many companies applied for how many Visas.

Again, there are no guarantees which of the 3 will get passed or accepted. 1 & 2 benefit you more than 3. Will be combined effect of those be more than enough to offset 3 (which I doubt will ever happen since that will require a change in law) is up to anyone's imagination.

As per Macaca's logic, pre Oct 2005 PDs will take up all the numbers available for EB2 Indai for 2007, in June and July.
If that is the case why was the Bulletin for july not set to Oct or Nov 2005 and instead made current. Surely USCIS does not want to deal with all the extra workload if it does not have to.

There already exists an very small, unsuccesful org for just EB3 that core is aware of, and they consider IV as their competitors because
1. They do not understand and know nothing of how IV works (just like plainspeak)
2. They want to get donations and members away from IV and make money

I am a simple person who does my job and helps people when i can and yes like every human i have ideas and hopes. Now when i get an idea about an invention i would go to the patents forum and when i get and idea about say investing i would go to an investing forum. Now when i got an idea related to immigration i have come to the forum which stands like a beacon for all immigration community or are you incapable of recognising the fact that that IV (and that means all you guys in in) is big hugh and was doing the right thing when no one else was.
Even now i do not think what IV is doing is wrong. I have differences with the outcome of their approach becasue i feel that this approach wil be bad for EB3. I am a simple person who does my job and helps people when i can and yes like every human i have ideas and hopes. Now when i get an idea about an invention i would go to the patents forum and when i get and idea about say investing i would go to an investing forum. Now when i got an idea related to immigration i have come to the forum which stands like a beacon for all immigration community or are you incapable of recognising the fact that that IV (and that means all you guys in in) is big hugh and was doing the right thing when no one else was.
Even now i do not think what IV is doing is wrong. I have differences with the outcome of their approach becasue i feel that this approach wil be bad for EB3. Out of all the people commenting out here there has been NOT even ONE person who has tried to understand the reason for why i feel EB3 is going to get in bad shape. Not one has tried to understand what i have been trying to say that NO big or small immigration bill will pass anytime soon and this will lead to EB2 retrogration which will be going against the statement which all you people like to say that is that EB2wil become current and EB3 will get better later so do not rock the boat

And yes i am sure there are many such organizations which may have been started as competition toIV and are not succesfull. Now if i was a fool i would go down the same path but i am not and i have realized that IV is the only vehcial of change. Now when IV tends to speak of EB retrogression they are sepaking on my behalf and when they are doing something on my behalf and if i feel what ever is being done is being determintal to my GC case am i not supposed to even ask IV.
So let me get this straight you are using my GC case as a reference in your charter and i have no say in what you do with my case. I wish i had a lawyer to back me up on this. Just Kidding!

And what single agenda and organization are you talking about as far as i am comcerned there is only one organzation for EB Retrogression relief and that is IV
All my other posts are genuine and they have been written because in some cases i genuenly fell the need to speak up seeing how you guys shoot down anything rElated to EB3 without seing the merits and pros and cons of it and in some cases i felt i could share info with someone who was looking for some answers whcih should have been answered by you guys but all of you were busy abusing my other posts. Actually i takethat back there were some other people from iV who repliesd back so sorry about that.
Why is it so hard to understand that this is a genuine person with a genuine query not some anti imigrant or competitor to IV. You guys are like the CID in Mash 4077 (google that if you want calrification) who see enemies of the country everywhere and are paraniod about everyone.
